When you see a list of numbers in a log or stack overflow, it’s often ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange)! Here’s how to recognize and read it.

Say you see this in a log:

110 101 116 58 58 69 82 82 95 67 79 78 78 69 67 84 73 79 78 95 82 69 70 85 83 69 68

Don’t panic! It’s just ASCII. You might not need to translate it, but if you do, you can do so for free online.

Or, here’s some JavaScript that will get the job done, too!

> const ascii_code = '110 101 116 58 58 69 82 82 95 67 79 78 78 69 67 84 73 79 78 95 82 69 70 85 83 69 68'
> const codes = ascii_code.split(/ /).map(Number)
> String.fromCharCode(...codes)
'net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED'
